A/Prof Simon Bowler
Group Leader
Associate Professor Simon Bowler is the co-leader of the Respiratory and Infectious Diseases Research Group. Simon is a leader in the field of respiratory and infectious disease medicine and has more than 35 years of experience as a respiratory physician and clinical trials researcher. He trained in Brisbane and the Royal Brompton Hospital in the UK. He founded the Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at Mater and was Mater’s Director of Medicine for 18 years. A/Prof Bowler is also the founder and chairman of Queensland Sleep.
A/Prof Bowler is recognised nationally for his clinical work on inflammatory airway conditions, including asthma. He is a recent Queensland Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) branch past president and has been on the TSANZ Executive, as well as served as Chair and Board Member of the Medical Advisory Committee of Asthma Australia.
A/Prof Bowler is recognised internationally for his work in asthma and bronchiectasis (expertscape asthma top 9.2% https://expertscape.com/au/asthma/Bowler%2C+S, bronchiectasis top 6.1% https://expertscape.com/au/bronchiectasis/Bowler%2C+S+D).
In addition to his clinical work, A/Prof Bowler is the co-custodian of the David Serisier Respiratory biobank, a clinical repository of human samples from patients with respiratory diseases.
