She currently co-leads Mater Research’s Chronic and Integrated Care Program and the Respiratory and Infectious Diseases Research Group.

Clinically, A/Prof Burr serves as Director of Respiratory, Sleep, and Cystic Fibrosis Medicine at Mater Hospital Brisbane. In addition to her clinical role, she also plays a key role in supporting the transition of paediatric patients to adult care in collaboration with Queensland Children’s Hospital.

A/Prof Burr said she was looking forward to hitting the ground running and contributing to Mater Research’s dynamic and innovative clinical research team.

Mater Research Executive Director Professor Allison Pettit said A/Prof Burr’s experience at Mater Health and Mater Research over the past decade makes her an excellent fit for the role.

"Lucy is deeply embedded in Mater’s research and clinical landscape, with strong working relationships across all Mater clinical teams," Prof Pettit said.

“As the custodian of the David Serisier Respiratory Biobank, she also plays a vital role in biobanking initiatives across our five research programs.”

Prof Pettit said the high calibre of candidates who applied for the coveted role was a testament to the strength of Mater Research’s clinical research.

"We were fortunate to have a number of outstanding applicants, which speaks volumes about the impact and credibility of Mater Research," Prof Pettit said.

"Lucy’s appointment is a reflection of her deep experience, leadership, and commitment to advancing clinical research."

A/Prof Burr steps down from her role as Deputy Head of School at The University of Queensland Medical School to take on this new leadership position. She will officially commence as Director of Clinical Research on 31 March 2025.
