DEPART - Seeking cancer patients with nerve pain
Nerve Pain
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two medications – duloxetine versus pregabalin – for cancer patients with nerve pain that is unresponsive to opioid medications. Patients will take either duloxetine or pregabalin for three weeks as the dose is gradually increased. Allocation to either medication is random and researchers and patients will be unaware of which medication is being taken.

What you need to know
Who can take part?
- People with cancer aged 18 and over
- People with nerve pain
- People taking regular opioid medications (eg. oxycodone, codeine) that do not improve the nerve pain sufficiently
- People who do not have chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy
- People who have not taken pregabalin or duloxetine for at least two weeks
- People who do not take escitalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine or moclobemide.
What is involved for you?
- Taking study medication twice a day for three weeks
- Face-to-face visits each week.
- Blood test at the initial visit and after two weeks
- Medical assessments and questionnaires at each face-to-face visit
- Completing a daily diary at home

This trial is accepting participants until March 2025.
